Why Al Qaeda won according to Walden Bello

"The 9/11 attack provided a pretext for neo-conservative U.S. imperialists to mount a global campaign to make the U.S. the number one global power and to exert U.S. influence everywhere. As a result the U.S. involved itself in two protracted and very expensive wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Military expenditure was increased so that now the U.S. spends almost as much as the rest of the world altogether. The U.S. has extended its empire to the point where it simply no longer can afford it," says U.P. Diliman Sociology Professor Walden Bello.
