Astronomical League of the Philippines President captures photo of Comet Harley 2 at PAGASA Observatory in U.P. Diliman

Last October 16, a heavy downpour late afternoon led to a spectacularly transparent sky, ALPers James Kevin Ty and Andrew Ian Chan went back to PAGASA Observatory in UP Diliman after an unsuccessful try last October 15 to try to recover Comet Hartley 2 under sub-urban condition. They quickly pounced on this rare opportunity, especially since they know that Typhoon Megi will surely close all chances of a good observation beginning tomorrow night...

Real estate developers enter into MOA with Ateneo High School to benefit AHS scholarships and facilities

(From left: Filinvest Brand Manager Gilbert Garovillas, AHS Principal Fr. RB Hizon, S.J., Group Sales Network Head of Filinvest Land, Inc. Rolly Aquesta, and Senior Brand Manager for Marketing of Filinvest Land, Inc. Jojo Baterna at the contract signing for the Memorandum of Agreement)

Ateneo de Manila High School has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with two top real estate developers – Filinvest Land, Inc. (FLI) and SM Development Corp. (SMDC) – that will benefit the scholarship and facilities development programs of the school. These companies recognize that a significant portion of their market comprises the Ateneo High School community, its alumni, administrators, faculty, students and parents. Therefore, they have proposed to donate 50 percent of commissions earned from selling their projects to the Ateneo High School to support scholarships and facilities development projects.

The said MOA is non-exclusive in nature so that AHS may enter into similar arrangements with other developers and institutions for the purpose of raising funds for its scholarship program and for the improvement of its facilities. Moreover, the MOA emphasizes that AHS or any of its administrators, faculty, students and staff shall not engage in, and are in fact prohibited from, selling and marketing the subject properties. Hence, the funds that will be donated to AHS are not in the nature of commissions earned by or owed to AHS.

The Office of the Principal released a memo to all parents informing them of the MOA with SMDC. However, parents are assured that none of their contact information will be released to the two real estate developers because the memo’s reply slip clearly indicates that parents who are interested in any of the properties will have to voluntarily provide their contact information.

The MOA also limits SMDC properties available for sale to the AHS community, namely Berkeley Residences along Katipunan Avenue, My Place @ South Triangle near ABS-CBN and Princeton Residences along Aurora Boulevard. On the other hand, Filinvest Land, Inc. offers the following properties for sale in their MOA with AHS:

· Medium Rise Buildings
o Bali Oasis Marcos Highway
o One Oasis Ortigas
o Sorrento Oasis Pasig
o Maui Oasis Pasig
o Capri Oasis Sta. Mesa

· Township and Residential Projects
o Havila Township Antipolo
o Timberland Heights, Timberland Sports and Nature Club San Mateo
o Tropics Cainta
o Spring Heights and Tamara Lanes Quezon City

· High Rise Buildings and Condominiums
o Linear Makati
o The Beaufort Fort Bonifacio
