Bagong Silangan Schools, Smile Cithomes face closure

“Two Quezon City public schools in Barangay Bagong Silangan, which were reportedly sitting on top of the West Valley fault line, were recommended for closure to ensure the safety of the students in case of an earthquake.”

“Other than these structures, the city government, on orders of Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista, is closely coordinating with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) in identifying other government facilities such as schools, health facilities, and day-care centers that may also be earthquake risk.”

“Also recommended for closure is SMILE CitiHomes along Zabarte Road on reports of structural defects. Bautista already asked its property developer, PHINMA properties, to immediately undertake retrofitting measures to ensure the safety of the homeowners. To ensure that all safety requirements are complied with, city building official, Isagani Versoza, has been tasked by the Mayor to coordinate closely with PHINMA.”
